This color combination can only be seen in this special work. It portrays a different Ton Schulten that we normally see on a deeper emotional level. Here he abandons his cheerful colors to represent the night.

The color, the glow and shine, the shape. The emotion and experience. That is the world of Ton Schulten. Or perhaps: the world according to Ton Schulten. Get to know that world. A world full of emotion and enchantment. No one misses the mysterious power of the impressive work of Ton Schulten, the simple baker's son from Ootmarsum. His work, now known worldwide, enchants the viewer. Shapes, colors and heavenly compositions that offer tranquility. Impressive and sometimes even hypnotic. Emotional and above all so beautiful in composition that no one can escape the powerful and mysterious appearance. Ton Schulten's work is warming and of inimitable beauty.

Ton Schulten (Ootmarsum, 1938)

Ton Schulten was born in Ootmarsum as the son of a baker. He grew up in a traditional Catholic middle-class family with six children. Schulten starts with a priestly training but abandons it when he realizes that he wants to take a more artistic path. He started working as a window dresser at Vroom & Dreesman and followed the evening course at the Academy for Art and Industry in Enschede, where he graduated with honors in 1962. In 1961, Schulten joined a leading advertising agency. However, he continues to draw and paint in his scarce free time. However, it is only when Schulten puts an end to his advertising career that he can really follow his artistic conscience. He has had enough of, as he calls it, 'playing manager'. It alienates him from the creative process. Ton was also involved in a serious car accident with his wife Ank in 1991. A good friend of the couple dies. It marks a turning point in Ton's life. Through abstract canvases with geometric shapes and large floral paintings, Schulten arrives at the Twente landscape. The landscape mosaic becomes his signature subject. Schulten has felt attached to the Twente landscape from an early age. Characteristic of his work are intense colors and wide vertical stripes on his canvases. The details in his works are independent paintings. Schulten is inspired by the Twente scenic landscape. Here he finds not only the ideas, but also the peace, space and unique light to create tirelessly. Schulten gets up every day at two or three in the morning to work in complete isolation in his studio. His credo is 'I make things happen that are not possible, but that are terribly interesting in terms of their effect. This creates a continuously new, creative process.
