Tony Bennett | Bruce Wolfe Concept Sketches for San Francisco Sculpture
Bruce Wolfe (1941-2023) a portfolio containing eight preliminary drawings of Tony Bennett in the early stages of the creative process of producing a bronze statue of Bennett that was unveiled in front of the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco on August 19, 2016 honoring Bennett's 90th birthday.
The unveiling was part of a number of festivities planned to honor Bennett and his contributions to the city of San Francisco, including the declaration of Tony Bennett day and a celebration at AT&T park where the Giants honored Bennett in a pre-game ceremony and throughout the game. The portfolio is accompanied by a typed letter signed by Wolfe and a handwritten note from Wolfe thanking Bennett for spending three days with him.
During the dedication ceremony Bennett said, "That's the most beautiful statue I have ever seen. It will live in my heart forever. Thank you for being so wonderful to me. I'll never forget this day."
