31076: Tony Rosenthal (1914-2009) Maquette for "Hammars
Tony Rosenthal (1914-2009) Maquette for "Hammarskjold", 1977 Welded steel 24 inches (61.0 cm) high "On a visit to New York City in 1983, just before moving here, friends took me for a celebratory night out in the East Village. The night ended/morning began with the ceremonial rotating of the large black cube on Astor Place. I had no idea that the sculpture, Alamo, was by Tony Rosenthal, or that years later I'd find several of his beautiful sculptures in the G.E. collection, dispersed around different facilities. In time, we brought together all 6 pieces for a long-lasting installation in a high priority location." - Glenn Macura, Curator, G.E.
