The Canadian Banksy, working under the pseudonym Agent X, juxtaposes elements of pop culture, technology, and fashion in visually arresting multimedia works. He developed his own mash-up style, combining vibrant accents of colour set against various mixed media, to better explore the anxieties of the post-modern world, the dark side of consumerist culture, and our social media obsession. In his striking collages and prints, Agent X presents a less superficial and more meaningful version of Pop Art.

By juxtaposing within a single work the ephemera of the past with the glossy aesthetics of print culture, he cleverly criticizes for example our veneration of classical Greco-Roman antiquity and our modern obsession with celebrities. His works cannot be reduced to a simple definition, however, since they exist at the intersection of various art movements, namely Futurism, Dada, Pop Art, and Superflat.

Born in Connecticut, Agent X studied in New Haven and Atlanta before moving to Canada and training at the Art Institute of Vancouver. He rose to fame after becoming a semi-finalist at The NY Art Marathon of 2011 and winning accolades from London galleries. In recent years, his works have been exhibited around the world, including San Francisco, New York, London, Germany, Amsterdam, and Singapore.
