Toots Zynski, sculptural filet de verre bowl

[ translate ]

Toots Zynsky
Shell object. Polychrome filigree glass threads, fused using the fusing technique. 15 x 32 x 20 cm. Marked on the bottom: Z (applied glass thread).
Her love for music, movement and dance led Toots Zynski (* 1951) to deal artistically with the material glass. In the early 1970s she studied at the Rhode Island School of Art, where she met Dale Chihuly (* 1941). She was enthusiastic about the free and experimental use of the fascinating material glass, and together with a group of like-minded artists, she pioneered the development of the studio glass movement, including the founding of the Pilchuck Glass School.
Toots Zynsky assembles her work from fine colored glass rods (filet de verre), which she arranges in different layers on top of each other in a painterly manner and fuses and shapes them into unique objects of extraordinary charm in several work steps. Her works are represented in over 75 major international museums, such as the Museum of Modern Art New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum London and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs du Louvre, Paris.
Literature: Barovier Mentasti, Rosa. Vetri. Nel Mondo. Oggi. Venedig 2004, S. 166f. (zum Vergleich).
