Torbernite Old Gunnislake Mine, Clitters United Mines, Gunnislake, Calstock, Cornwall, England, UK "A miniature size cluster of green flat sheaves of partially intergrown green torbernite crystals on matrix to about 1.5 cm. Traded this specimen from the George Vaux collection at Bryn Mawr when Harold Arndt was curator there." - Rock H. Currier Overshadowed by "recent" production from Margabal and the Congo, Gunnislake Torbernites were the standard for many, many years. And in many ways, they still are, but the scarcity of surviving material in the cabinets of the collecting world has made Cornish Torbernites a considerable rarity. This specimen from the Vaux Collection dates to the period when the mine was in production and is a fine representative of both the species and the period. George Vaux acquired this specimen in June 1898. If you were to acquire this specimen, it will allow you to rub shoulders with the formidable Richard W. Barstow: UK dealer and field collector extraordinaire, whose last home was in Gunnislake. It comes with a custom acrylic base and the original Vaux label. Overall Measurements: 2.2 x 1.6 x 0.8 inches (5.5 x 4.0 x 2.0 cm) Offered at no reserve Provenance: Ex. Bryn Mawr College, Ex. George Vaux [1898] Collections [RHC #1563, acquired 1971] MinID L8U-Q8G [Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
