Torbernite Shinkolobwe Mine, Shinkolobwe, Kambove District, Haut-Katanga, Democratic Republic of Congo "A mound of small dark green crystals about 6 inches high. ?" - Rock H. Currier Anybody worried about having Uranium minerals in their collection? Well, unless you work in a Uranium mine, you can rest easier now. As proof, I offer up the life and career of Belgian mineral dealer: Gilbert Gauthier of Maisons Lafitte in France. Gilbert was a drilling supervisor at the Shinkolobwe Mine and, as such, had access both to the mine and the Belgian mining company people who ran the place. This situation kept him in specimen material, from here, for the rest of his life. Even today, specimens from Shinkolobwe are rarely encountered due to a heavy level of secrecy about operations there. Not a lot of these around. By the time he died, in his early 80's, Gilbert should have been radioactive. He wasn't. Worry about something else. There is a custom acrylic base. Overall Measurements: 5.7 x 5.2 x 4.3 inches (14.5 x 13.2 x 11.0 cm) Offered at no reserve Provenance: RHC #6985, acquired 2001 [Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
