Tran Van Tho (1917-2004), Festival Day
陈文图 (1917-2004) 节日之日 设色绢本 镜框
Signed and stamped with the artist's seal; ink and gouache on silk mounted on paper, framed
艺术家签名及钤印, 23 x 35 in — 58.4 x 88.9 cm

Note:
When the war broke out in 1945, North Vietnamese painter Tran Van Tho was one of the students who had to flee to the South since he could not continue his studies at Hanoi's School of Fine Arts. His life and artistic output were split between France and Vietnam; he worked and exhibited in France, then returned to Vietnam to teach, and eventually returned to France until his death.

Tran is a master of silk painting, and his favourite topic is depicting Vietnamese ladies in intimate settings laced with evident cultural references to his homeland. Tran Van Tho appears to have strived to keep this tradition alive until the end of his life.

Estimate: $3,000—5,000
