Travel icon, cross - Bronze, Enamel - 19th century

Rare Orthodox cross with transverse at the bottom (Cross as Scales of justice) . On the lower slope is the Old Jerusalem, on the opposite side the New Jerusalem. On the first transverse is the cosmic sense with Christ the Saviour; below the two Cherubim awaiting the Soul and Body of the Son of God; below the Angels, the phrase "King of Glory"; on the sides of the Limbo, the letters "Jesus Son of God". On either side of the horizontal transverse of the Cross are the Sun and the Moon, which represent the cosmos. The Corpus Christi is fixed with four nails and not three, as it is in Western representations, and has the head bowed to the right. Along the body are two canes with a spear on the right and a sponge on the left, as a reminder of the moments of the Passion, with an inscription. Further down is the Adam's Skull, symbolising humanity fallen into sin. Dimensions: 36 x 17. 5 cm Unrestored. Gilded and enamelled bronze. Accurate shipping.
