Trio of Egyptian Scarabs - Ex-Philip Mitry
**First Time At Auction**
Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom to Third Intermediate Period, ca. 1550 to 664 BCE. A trio of Egyptian miniature amulets, two scarabs and one scaraboid, each made from a different material. First is a deep-blue scaraboid made from a lightweight paste, with a smooth topside, a blank base, and two perforated suspension holes. Next is a more traditional scarab, made from a gray faience, with insectile features on the topside and a faded cartouche of the Pharaoh Amenhotep III on the bottom; this one is also laterally perforated. Last is a carved and glazed steatite scarab, presented in a faded beige, with clearly-defined insectile features on top and a blank bottom, also laterally perforated for suspension. A lovely ensemble! Size of largest (all fairly similar in size): 0.3" L (0.8 cm).
Provenance: ex-Hank Johnson collection, Denver, Colorado, USA; HD-Enterprise, Denver, acquired from the estate of Philip Mitry; ex-Philip Mitry collection, Cairo Egypt, acquired in the 1950s
