As an autodictator, Karl Hodina plays a central role in the school of Viennese fantasists, whose works shine with their complex pictorial structure and technical brilliance. Fascinated by the works of the Old Masters, he took up the brush himself for the first time in 1962 and from then on created vast pictorial spaces with mixed and mythical creatures that suggest an association with Hieronymus Bosch. This particular work opens up an incredibly detailed pictorial world that reproduces such a precise painting style and sharpness even on a small scale. The arch to the Dutch masters could also be drawn in the execution as a triptych. Partial colour chips due to hinge months. Does not disturb the overall impression.
