carved in relief with a seated scholar with an attendant standing behind him holding a tobako while upon a key pattern carpet all within a framework of pine trees, reverse with lotus flower and trailing stems and foliage, on a key pattern ground and a natural wood netsuke formed as a hollowed tree branch with a trailing vine in relief with three mother of pearl flower buds on a ground of gnarled bark
