Tsumeb Lunch Box Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Oshikoto Region, Namibia Ever the collector of the weird, outré, and occasionally, ahem - pornographic items discovered on his travels, Currier occasionally strayed into the arena of historic items associated with the specimen trade. As the scrawled notation on the lunch box indicates, it was used during 1978 to smuggle over 10,000 Rand worth of mineral specimens out of the Tsumeb Mine. That was when 10,000 Rand was real money. No fool, Herr Gouws made damn sure that he got a lunch box just under the legal limit for international air travel. Not that he ever flew anywhere. Notice how the original locking bolts had to be replaced. Who knows what weighty treasures were smuggled out of the mine in this lunch box? Inquiring minds want to know ... Overall Measurements: 13.8 x 7.5 x 10.2 inches (35.0 x 19.0 x 26.0 cm) Offered at no reserve Provenance: Peter Gouws, Tsumeb Mine, scrapped on December 1978
