Oysterdate Monte Carlo, Ref: 7159/0, Circa 1972

Model: Oysterdate Monte Carlo
Reference: 7159/0
Date: Circa 1972
Movement: 17-jewel Valjoux Cal.234 manual wind
Dial: Grey, black and luminous block hour markers, white outer 1/5th second markers on blue ground with outer orange Arabic five minute markers, subsidiary dials at 3 and 9 for constant seconds and 45 minute recording, magnified date aperture at 6, black baton hands with luminous inserts, orange centre chronograph hand
Case: Brushed and polished tonneau form, screw down back date coded 'I72', shouldered screw down crown flanked by twin screw down pushers, fixed bezel with black calibrated insert, No.779359
Strap/Bracelet: Fitted Jubilee link
Buckle/Clasp: Rolex U.S.A folding clasp
Signed: Case, dial & movement
Size: 39mm

These were the first chronographs produced by Tudor and are instantly recognisable by the distinctive dial with angled blue subsidiary dials instead of the more normal circular subsidiaries used by the other chronographs of its time. The combination of the vibrant orange chronograph seconds hand and 5 minute markers against the blue grey dial is a great example of 70's design and a look that remains distinctive working equally well today as it did when it was produced.
