Ottoman Kilij sabre or Persan Shamshir: Total length: 98. 5 cm Blade length: 81 cm Shaft: 11. 8 cm The ‘shamshir’ is a type of Persian sword with a wide curvature. Its name means ‘lion's claw’ in Persian. It spread widely throughout the Ottoman Empire and through the Middle East. The handle is made of bone. Silver-plated metal hilt, crossguard with two straight quillons and ears. Very strongly curved blade with flat back, pitted in several places. Leather-covered sheath with two fittings and two loops in silver-plated metal, cut out. No looseness or dents. It is presented in an exotic varnished wooden case, fully lined with white felt: 33 cm x 113 cm The case is in very good condition, outside and inside.
