Turner (Joseph Mallord William) Autograph letter signed (‘JMW Turner’) to F. MacCraken Esq. in Belfast, reading “I feel ashamed of the blunder I made by putting the letter intended for Mr Wethered into the wrong envelope I wrote asking if you wished me to get a frame ready by the end of the exhibition like the last year but it appears unreasonable at the present time therefore I beg you to suit your own convenience thereon”, one page, address leaf featuring red wax seal remnants and a postmarked Penny Red, closed tear to address leaf, folding marks, 4to, Queen Ann St. West, 14 June 1846. ***The letter has been published in Turner Studies. His Art and Epoch 1775-1851, Vol 6, No. 1, page 7 (copy included in the lot). It is also accompanied by two letters addressed to the former owner by John Gage from the Department of History of Art at the University of Cambridge, confirming he authenticity of the letter and his intention to publish it in a new edition of the “Collected Correspondence”.
