Two bronze Yatate, Japan, Meiji period, late 19th/early 20th century
One in the shape of a pumpkin with a rabbit on top, the other engraved with meander and floral patterns. Used for carrying writing attributes. The handle can store a brush and the container can hold a piece of cotton. This cotton (which is still present in either one) was dipped in ink, then when one wanted to write somewhere, the brush could be dipped in the cotton.
