Two 19th century prospectors' bar brooches
Two 19th century prospectors' bar brooches, each modelled as a shovel with wirework rope and nuggets, the first with pickaxe and bucket, inscribed 'PRETORIA', the second with later clasp fitting, lengths 5.1cm and 5cm respectively (2)
Both brooches have scuffs, scratches, nicks and chips throughout, commensurate for age and use, with patchy tarnishing. The brooch pins are functioning. One brooch has a later sfaety catch hook. Neither brooch is marked and both are untested for metal standard. Approximate gross weights: first brooch 3.7gm, second brooch 6gm.
