The Treason of Charles Lee Major General Second in Command in the American Army of the Revolution by George H. Moore. New York: Charles Scribner, 1860. First edition. 8 vo. 3/4 red Morocco leather with marbled boards and end papers, Raised and gilt lettered spine, gilt top ruled edge, uncut, with engraved frontispiece by G.R. Hall, another rather uncomplimentary engraving by A.H. Ritchie after B. Rashbrooke and tipped-in at back of book a large folded facsimile of the letter of General Lee to General Gates Basking Ridge 1776. The book is about an alleged treasonable act of Charles Lee and revolves around his preparation of a document, which provided the British with information as to how they might defeat the Americans. This information came to light in 1858 and is laid out for the reader by the author, George Henry Moore (1823-1892) an American librarian, historian, bibliographer, writer of several books and superintendent of Lenox Library, New York City. A very handsome copy in very good condition. The Life and Campaigns of The Hon. Nathaniel Greene,....by Charles Caldwell, M.D. Philadelphia: Desilver, 1819. First Edition. *vo. Full leather hardbound, with red leather title insert on gilt tooled spine, engraved frontispiece, two folding facsimile letters, 452 pages. Greene was a Major General in the army of the United Sates and commander of the Southern Department in the Revolutionary War. Good condition; moisture damage to boards, corners bumped, spine chipped with losses, margin notations.
