Two Chinese silk embroidered panels, and two embroidered cases
Two Chinese silk embroidered panels, one with gilt thread dragon, probably a 19th century tunic panel, 24x17cm; the second a fragment embroidered with a dragon beneath clouds and bats; an embroidered sheath, and an embroidered purse.Condition Report The largest panel (gilt ground) is very delicate. It has been sown along the left margin to a thick backing and the silk has become slightly attached to it, so it is difficult to remove without causing damage to the silk threads. Large areas of thinning and holes, for example at the dragon's mouth, the clouds, and along historic fold lines. The smaller dragon panel is laid on a tissue paper back and it appears to have fused to it in places. being very delicate we are not able to peel the paper away to see the back of the embroidery. The embroidery and silk appear in good general condition, some discoloration, some minor snagging. There may be touches of historic repair. The embroidered purse is fine, minor snags, but it appears to be a relatively recently made purse using a patch of older silk. The sheath is discoloured grey but appears in ok condition. Possibly restitched around the circular disc base where they have used black thread as opposed to fine white thread along the vertical seams. Two Chinese silk embroidered panels, one with gilt thread dragon, probably a 19th century tunic panel, 24x17cm; the second a fragment embroidered with a dragon beneath clouds and bats; an embroidered sheath, and an embroidered purse.
