Two Decorative Ceramic Tableware Items Including a Famille Rose Style Vase and a Mason's style Table Lamp.
A group lot comprising two ceramic items of oriental and ironstone influence. The lot comprises:
A baluster-form ceramic table lamp mounted on an octagonal dark-finished wooden plinth. The ceramic body features a cream-coloured glaze decorated with floral sprays in palettes of pink, yellow, and blue, framed by iron-red foliate scrolls. The piece is fitted with a large cream-coloured fabric shade with a scalloped edge, gold braid trim, and white tassels. The lamp is wired with a white cord and a standard UK three-pin plug. The base is not visible due to the wooden mounting.
A large cylindrical rouleau-style vase with a flared rim and crackle-glaze white ground. The body is decorated in the Famille Rose palette with a 'meiren' garden scene featuring two female figures in traditional Chinese dress among flowering trees. The neck is decorated with a scrolling floral band, while the shoulder and rim feature 'ruyi' and geometric borders in pink, blue, and yellow. The underside of the base bears a printed black square mark containing two characters; the character on the left reads '中' (Zhong) and the character on the right reads '華' (Hua), identifying the country of origin as China.
More Information
The table lamp shows minor surface grime to the ceramic body and light age-related discolouration to the fabric shade (photo 1). Some tassels on the shade exhibit fraying. The electrical wiring is vintage and requires professional testing before use. The large vase exhibits overall crazing to the glaze and several dark iron spotting marks or pitting, particularly visible on the shoulder (photo 4). A hairline crack is visible running from the rim down into the neck (photo 4). There is significant shelf-wear and grime to the unglazed foot rim (photo 5).
