Two Indian Phulkari silk embroidered textiles
Early/mid-20th century
Comprising a four-panel Phulkari textile with silk embroidery on cotton in various allover diamond patterns on red ground fabric, with diagonal banding to ends (102.5" H x 53" W), and a four-panel Phulkari textile with silk embroidery on cotton in orange, cream, and tan with multi-colored bands to ends (93" H x 53.5" W), 2 pieces

Provenance: The Collection of Walter and Nesta Spink, Ann Arbor, MI, by 2005

Other Notes: Several other Phulkaris from this collection were gifted to the University of Michigan Museum of Art, Ann Arbor, MI, and were exhibited as part of the museum's show, "The Connoisseurs' Legacy: The Collection of Nesta and Walter Spink," June 18 - September 25, 2016.
Condition Report: Each in overall good condition with dust accumulation, creasing and light wear commensurate with age and use. The first with scattered areas of soiling and dark marks, with a larger watermark-type stain to one end. A few loose embroidery stitches. Scattered dark marks verso. The second with a few scattered marks overall. An area of loss and stitched repair to one side edge. With scattered light creasing and fold lines, and with areas of gathering to some seams. Condition reports are offered as a courtesy and are typically published in Moran's catalogue or can be made available upon request. The absence of a condition report does not imply that an item is free from defects or restoration, nor does a reference to particular defects imply the absence of others. Buyers are responsible for determining to their own satisfaction the true nature and condition of any lot prior to bidding. Though buyers are not legally required to inspect lots prior to purchase, failure to do so may constitute a waiver of complaint that an item was not delivered in a condition equal to the existent condition at the auction.
