Two Pieces of American Goofus Glass Including a Large Rose Pattern Bowl and a Small...
A pair of early 20th-century pressed glass vessels featuring polychrome cold-painted decoration. The larger bowl is constructed from gold-toned amber glass and features a scalloped, beaded rim. The interior decoration consists of large, multi-petaled rose blossoms in high relief, finished with translucent red cold paint. These floral motifs are contained within arched panels and separated by molded lattice and crisscross designs. The exterior of the bowl is finished in a dark, opaque pigment. The flat base features a large molded rose blossom in the center. The smaller bowl is formed from light amethyst-tinted glass with a crimped or ruffled rim. The interior features an all-over floral pattern set against a dense "daisy and button" geometric background. The blossoms are highlighted with red and gold cold paint. The underside is molded with an intricate floral and leaf pattern across the entire surface, centered by a small flower on the flat base. Both pieces are characteristic of the pressed glass technique where patterns are molded into the glass rather than cut, and the decorative color is applied to the surface after the glass has cooled. No maker marks, signatures, or labels are visible on either piece.Diameter of large bowl: 9 3/8 inchesDiameter of small bowl: 5 1/4 inches.
