19th Century. Two icons, tempera painted, both with chased silver oklads. The larger of Theotokos as the Virgin Hodegetria; marked "BC [over] 1886 84 [St. George]"; in a kiot with gilt-painted liner; 4 3/8" x 3 4/8" (kiot 7 1/2" x 6 1/2"). The smaller of Christ with Saints, marked "[cross cannons] 84 AP"; 3 1/8" x 2 1/2". Condition: Theotokos with craquelure, some dents, small splits at corners, tarnish, the kiot with small cracks/losses; the smaller overall good, some scuffing/tarnish. Provenance: Private Collection, Northern California.
