early 20th century, a red clay bowl, the shape consistent with forms found in the New Market area of the Shenandoah Valley (3 x 9 1/4 in.) (glaze loss; rim chip; slight underside pitting); the second is a dirt dish attributed to Piedmont, NC (2 1/2 x 12 1/2 in.) (hairline from rim; crazing; flaking).
