These are the arms of Philip John MILES (1773-1845) of Leigh Court, Bristol and his second wife Clarissa PEACH (1790-1868). They were married in 1813 and Clarissa continued to use the full shield of arms during her life, after her husband's death in 1845.
Philip John MILES was the second but only surviving son of William Miles (1728–1803) a financier and Bristol West India merchant, and his wife Sarah Berrow. His elder brother William died aged 23 in 1790. He was married first in 1795 to Maria WHETHAM (1790-1868) and this marriage provided his heir and future Baronet Sir William MILES (1797-1878). He married for a second time in 1813 Clarissa PEACH (1790-1868), daughter of Samuel PEACH a London merchant and MP.

Philip John MILES was a partner in Miles Bank of Bristol, and later Miles, Harford & Co, which eventually became part of NatWest. He was an Member of Parliament for Westbury (1820), Corfe Castle (1829) and Bristol from 1835. He lived throughout his life at Leigh Court but also owned properties and extensive estates elsewhere including Kings Weston House, The Manor House at Walton-in-Gordano, Walton Castle, Cardigan Priory and Underdown, Ledbury, Herefordshire, where the family originated before moving to Somerset.
