Two Vintage Friendship Themed Pima Baskets

[ translate ]

Presented here for your consideration are two vintage Pima baskets. Both are willow baskets done with the friendship design pattern. The larger basket is decorated with a series of human figures. All the figures are joined by a dark woven line from hand to hand, but between two of the human figures a figure of an animal stands upon that joining line. This is a very interesting basket. The smaller basket is decorated with human figures all of which appear to be wearing a skirt. The Pima (Akimel O'Odham), who reside in central and southern Arizona, produced magnificent baskets with meaningful designs and patterns. Their finely-coiled baskets are made of cattail or bear grass foundation and closely stitched with willow and devil's claw (for designs). Two very interesting Pima baskets that you should bid on now to add to your decor or collection!
MAKER: Unknown basket weavers.
APPROX AGE: Vintage (meaning somewhere between 1930s to 1970s).
