Two WWII Era US Navy Bronze Submarine Plaques

This lot is part of a large archive of items belonging to Captain Leif Tollefson -United States Navy. He was a career Navy man, and spent most of his time on submarines during his career. He served at sea in all pay grades E-2 through E-7 and O-1 through 0-6. He was promoted to Chief Torpedoman's Mate in 1943, to Ensign in 1944, and through all grades to Captain in 1965. His 35 years of active duty service were continuous from 1940 until 1975, with many years at sea, mostly in submarines. In addition to a tour as Officer-in- Charge of a Landing Ship Tank during the campaign at Okinawa, his commands included short tours in USS LCS 1, USS LSM 160, and full tours in command of USS ROCK (SSR 274), USS OGLETHORPE (AKA 100), and Submarine Division 21. He also had staff assignments in Material, Personnel, Operations, Plans, Training, and Administration. His last tour of duty was on the Staff of the Chief of Naval Education and Training in Pensacola. His many decorations included World War II service awards, Meritorious Service Medals, and Commendation Awards with the Combat "V". This lot consists of two nice bronze submarine plaques including one for the USS Tang (SS563) with commissioning pamphlet and a bronze plaque for the WWII Era USS Diodon (SS349). One bronze disc has seperated from the wood plaque and has to be reattached.
