Two pairs of Russian Karelian birch and marquetry inlaid tub chairs

Two pairs of Russian Karelian birch and marquetry inlaid tub chairs, second quarter 19th century, each of 'barrel back' form, decorated with stylised foliate marquetry, one pair 86cm high, the other pair 82cm highCondition Report: Marks, scratches and abrasions comensurate with age and use. Some old chips and splits. Some old repairs. Some additional chips from the outer edges of the frames. Some small old losses to veneer have been disguised with brown coloured filler. There are replaced sections of veneer of various size to the feet, particularly to the rear feet. Some areas of lifting to veneer. Some minor areas of 'bubbling' to veneer. (see additional images) some simple restoration could remedy most or all of these instances. The reverse (back) areas of the exterior of the one of the seats rails are largely simulated karelian birch (see images) and the same area of some of the other chairs may incorporate simulated karelian birch also. The chairs are of solid useable structure. Various old wear, particularly to the outer edges.The seats later re-upholstered with simulated crocodile. The bottom edge of the reverse of the backs have various evidence of nail/ tack holes from previous attachment of upholstery, some of this has previously been disguised with old repair and filler (see images) Please refer to the additional images for visual reference to condition. These tub chairs are probably not designed to be used as dining chairs, probably as occasional chairs in a drawing room or perhaps library settingCondition Report Disclaimer
