Anthony from a photographic negative by Brady's National Portrait Gallery, neatly signed on the mount in ink, "U. S. Grant, Lt. Gen. U.S.A." In fine condition, with a trimmed top edge. President Lincoln commissioned Grant as lieutenant general and commander of all Union armies on March 4, 1864; he served in that rank until his promotion to five-star general on July 25, 1866. A superb signed photograph of the Union's skillful leader.
