U. S. Grant
Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 21.75 x 17.5, July 5, 1876. Four language ship's paper issued to "Stephen Flanders master or commander of the Bark called Sea Ranger...lying at present in the port of New Bedford bound for Atlantic Ocean and laden with provisions, utensils, & stores for a whaling voyage." Signed in the fourth panel by Grant and countersigned by Secretary of State Hamilton Fish. In very good condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, old reinforcement to reverse of central vertical fold, uniform shade of mild toning, light show-through from notation on reverse, and scattered edge wear. The white seal is evenly toned, with some paper loss to bottom edge. A fine example of this rare Grant format.
