UDERZO (1927–2020).
“The Other Oak.”
“Pierre Tchernia Collection.”
This sequence is characteristic of the comic book *Le Domaine des Dieux* (1971), in which the Gauls use magic acorns to instantly grow oak trees to thwart a Roman real estate project. It is also a nod—through the homophony of the word—to Pierre Tchernia, or “Monsieur Cinéma,” to whom this piece was gifted. A very close friend of Goscinny, he co-wrote several animated films (Cleopatra, The Twelve Labors). Pierre Tchernia is often caricatured as a Roman in the comic books. Signed by Uderzo and Goscinny.
Gouache and India ink.
