UNION CIVIL WAR FEDERAL CANTEEN WITH SLING & COVER

The model 1858 canteen was the most popular canteen of the Civil War period. Canteen measures approximately 7 ¾” in diameter. It is covered in brown wool. The cover is complete and in excellent condition. The stitched seam is unbroken. The three sling loops and spout are all present. Stopper with ring and chain. This canteen still has an iron chain connecting the stopper to one of the side strap brackets. The chain is complete. An original cotton shoulder strap remains on the canteen. It remains very good with some fraying. On the throat of the canteen is scratched F. Scrick. This is a terrific example of a Civil War Canteen.
