US AMES MODEL 1834 GENERALS & GENERAL STAFF OFFICERS SWORD WITH BELT AND BUCKLE, only made by Ames, the ricasso is mkd. ?N.P. Ames, Cutler Springfield?, the double engraved blade shows a patriotic eagle, an Indian, a US shield, floral designs etc., the grip is a gray ribbed iron, also has an iron clamshell guard & pommel both retaining about 90% of their gold gilt, the black leather scabbard has some cracking & some seam separation but are very solid as are the 3 gilted decorative brass mounts, comes w/ dam- aged gold bullion knot & correct white buff leather frog (separation on back), the belt is an early white buff leather, the gilted brass buckle is a tongue & wreath style w/ an oakleaf wreath having an elaborate ?US? tongue (reverse of both are stamped ?XV? (a foundry mark))VG++
