US ARMY: PRINTED COPIES OF THE JAPANESE INSTRUMENTS OF SURRENDER SIGNED IN TOKYO BAY AND IN THE PHILIPPINES.
[Pacific Theater ?Guam : After 3rd September 1945.]
A pair of Army printed copies, the first of the Instrument of Surrender, signed in Tokyo Bay 2nd September 1945, 10 leaves 4 blank, folio, 430 x 270 mm, in original paper folder, lettered on the upper cover.
WITH: The Instrument of Surrender for the Philippines, dated 3rd September 1945, 2 leaves, folio, original paper wrapper. Both lightly stained.
Provenance: Ackels, an American GI stationed next to a portable printing wagon near Guam?

An unusual survival of an official printed (Army) copy of both the Japanese Surrender Documents. A letter that accompanies the lot states that this is one of 300 copies of each document that was printed up by an Army Printing Wagon, usually producing propaganda, but in September 1945 the original photographs of the documents were sent to this printing works and 300 copies of the Surrender documents printed up for circulation. GI Ackels swapped the use of his jeep for these two documents.
