U.S. Horstmann Militia Officer's eagle head sword

An U.S. Militia Officer's eagle head sword by W.H. Horstmann, Philadelphia. Circa 1843-1850s. 29 3/4" straight blade. Etched foliate design, marked "WHHS" and "PHILADELPHIA" on reverse. Large brass counterguard with Seal of the United States" and eagle head pommel. Bone wire wrapped grip. Brass embossed scabbard stamped "HORSTMANN" and 427. Condition: Pitting of blade near guard. Dents in scabbard. Chipped edge of bone grip. Etching faint from cleaning.
