US M1833 DRAGOON SABER WITH NORTH CAROLINA
MARKINGS.This fine US M1833 dragoon saber is considered a secondary Confederate weapon. It measures 41" overall with a 34" quill back blade that is etched "United States " with oak leaves on one side and " N. P. Ames Cutler Springfield 1837 " on the other. Brass 2 branch hilt with a dropped disk quillon that is stamped "WS", the inspector and "N C", for North Carolina. There is a steel spanner nut atop the stepped pommel. Leather wrapped grip. Iron scabbard stamped " ORD. " on the drag. CONDITION: blade has a cleaned gray patina with a few minor nicks on the edge. Etched markings are light but discernable. Hilt shows light wear and, the grip is 95%+ complete. Scabbed has a mottled patina with scattered shallow dents and a separation to the edge 10" up from the drag, (02-27595/BF). $1800-2400.
