U.S. Springfield Model 1863 Rifle Musket

American Civil War
.58 caliber. 40" round barrel. SN: NSN. Bright finish, walnut stock. Single shot percussion muzzleloading military rifle musket with three screw clamping rounded barrel bands, 1861 pattern leaf rear sight, and combination front sight and socket bayonet lug. Lock marked U.S./SPRINGFIELD with a {Spread-Winged Eagle} forward of the hammer and dated 1863 at the tail. A {Spread-Winged Eagle} is on the flat percussion bolster. Left angled breech flat with V/P/{Eagle Head} proofs and no visible date on the top of the breech. Counterpane with no visible cartouche. Retains a correct pattern straight-shank tulip head ramrod that is full length with threads at the end and both sling swivels. A post-Civil War sling made from two Civil War era slings is included as well.

From the Collection of Bob Lecount Arms, Armor & Militaria Good. Bore good to very good with strong rifling, moderate frosting and some evenly distributed pinpricking. Metal with a moderately oxidized coating of light surface rust that might clean to some degree. Lock mechanically functional. Stock with some wear, lightly sanded and showing scattered bumps, dings and mars.
