U.S. WWI WINCHESTER MODEL 1917 BOLT ACTION

MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 355766. S# matches on the receiver, bottom of the buttstock, and bolt. Bbl. 26", marked behind the front sight "W (flaming bomb) 6-18". Import marked on the bottom of the bbl. Ladder rear sight marked "S". Graduated to 1600 yards. Blade front sight with protective ears. Safety and bolt stop marked "E". The left receiver rail has an eagle head acceptance mark on top and a flaming bomb on the side. The receiver ring has been modified with a semi-circular cut to clear bullet tips, similar to the modification performed on 1917 rifles used in Greenland by Denmark. There is an added sheet metal filler in the clip slot, which is retained by the rear sight screw. This appears to be an arsenal-quality addition. Walnut stock set. The end tip is marked "W." "W"-marked upper band with bayonet lug. The stacking swivel and screw are not present. CONDITION: stock set has light to moderate wear, staining, and handling marks over the original finish. Metal has a mix of finishes, with the receiver and barrel retaining a majority of the original blue. Very good, shiny bore with sharp lands.
