Marlin 1881 in excellent condition. Some screws and the lever latch are not original. Loop has beautiful features and fields. Loop has 95 percent bluing, the rest of the metal has a gray-brown patina. Front wood without cracks, which is usually not the case with this model. The butt has some inconspicuous, perfectly repaired cracks. Connection of butt and fore wood to metal parts is very good. This weapon has no test bench marks. (American weapons were usually shot at the factory, and not labeled as such) . The caliber 32-40 Winchester (Ballard) was introduced in 1884, so as a black powder cartridge. The 1881 model was manufactured from 1881 to 1892. In the Netherlands, all Marlins of the 1881 model are exempt according to art. 18 RWM.
