[ translate ]

Vintage United States Navy U.S.S. Akron airship group consisting of a dirigible blueprint, 18 photographs and fabric remnant from the Akron. The blueprint measures 76" x 18.25" and is in very good condition with folds and small holes along the edges most likely caused when this was pinned on a wall. The 18 photographs including views of the Akron in flight, on the ground, and construction of the special hanger at the Goodyear Airdock in Akron, Ohio. 4 of the photographs measure 9.875" x 7.625", 13 photos measures 5.75" x 3.5", and one photo measures 4.5" x 2.75". One other photograph of a lake scene in Florida is included because it was found with the U.S.S.Akron photos but it's relation to the photos, if any, is not known. One of the photos of the hanger being constructed bears an historically significant caption on the reverse that reads, "Zepp Hanger Akron, Ohio, Sept., 1929". This image was taken just prior to the start of construction on October 31, 1929 at the Goodyear Airdock in Akron, Ohio by the Goodyear-Zeppelin Corporation. The fabric remnant measures approximately 6" x 6.5" and is comprised of thin woven cloth with a heavy, silver metallic paint coating over both sides. The fabric is folded and with creases. On October 27, 1931, the Akron was commissioned a U.S. Navy ship at the Lakehurst Naval AIr Station, Manchester Township, New Jersey.
