Circa 1904-1910 being the medals and personal effects of Command Senior Chief Geo. W. Burton, serving aboard the U.S.S. Georgia, (BB-15). Lot of 18 items including a dovetailed wood ditty box in original red painted surface with locking lid opens to interior with lift out shelf and paper storage compartment in lid with hinged door, inked name on interior lid G.W. Burton, 13 ½ x 9 ¾ x 9” high; plus four photographs, including an early silver print of the Canyors stone arches in front of the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem with large group of U.S. sailors on steps in front of aches, Geo. In center rear in Chiefs cap, with blind stamp in lower left of Khalil Raad (1854-1951) know as Palestines first Arab photographer, 10 ½ x 8 ½ in period frame, 12 x 9 ½”; one real photo post card of large group of sailors on deck of battleship with inked inscription on reverse reading: This life is no smooth sailing as we go along each day But we must stop and think awhile while we are along the weary way.; plus oval 3 1/8 x 6 ½” full length portrait of Geo. In dress uniform on original gray card stock mount, 5 x 10”; plus gem sized silver print shoulder length portrait of Geo. In uniform. Lot also has five medals, including bronze inscribed Naval Good Conduct medal with original red ribbon hanger & pin-back with USS Constitution on obverse and engraved inscription on reverse: C.S.C. Georgia Aug. 2, 1909; with surrounding inscription in relief Obedience Fidelity Zeal, 4” long; plus a lovely enameled brass pin-back medal with ships portrait of USS Georgia and U.S.N with stars and stripes surround, 1 ½ x 2” high; plus blue enameled relief brass medals.: Visit of American Fleet Souvenir Commonwealth of Australia 1908, 1” diameter; plus polychrome enameled silver (sterling) medal from fleet visit to Japan with crossed U.S. & Japanese Rayed Rising Sun flags with tree in background, reverse not enameled with crossed flags and anchor, marked in Japanese script on end of anchor, ¾” x 1 1/8” high; plus pewte medal with relief fleet of ships on obverse with crossed U.S. flag and fraternal FLT flag at top, crossed cannon and Welcome To Our Bretheren of the Fleet May 1908, with pin-back hanger attached with chain links and relief FLT/Souvenir, 1 ½ x 2 ½”. Lot also includes a bronze collar button with entwined USGN, 1” diameter; plus silk lapel pin U.S. flag, 2” wide; plus set of eight base metal printers blocks for printing calling card with G.W. Burton/Chief Mechanics Mate George W. Burton. With corner blocks and edge decoration; plus a carved bone eagle in flight, likely Japanese, 1” long; plus 5 ¼ x 3 ¼” accordion fold booklet entitled Souvenir D Athennes with 16 photomechanical prints each titled in French & Greek; plus a 4 ½ x 6” booklet entitled Guide Book For Travelers Evident Description of the Antiquities of Athens and its Environ…, dated 1904, 51pp with inked name of G.W.
