Umbrian Votive Statuette of Praying Man

A bronze votive statuette of male form, possibly depicting a stylised warrior, elongated proportions, arms and legs spread open, punched nipples and navel; accompanied by a custom-made stand. 5 grams, 41mm (13.8 grams total, 53mm including stand) (11/2'' (2)"). Mr Nowes by Cylon Cite, Athena Münzen der Antike GmbH in München, Germany. With Howard Nowes Ancient Art, USA, item number 4642, November 2014. Private Australian collection. Accompanied by a signed certificate of authenticity from Howard Nowes Ancient Art. Accompanied by a copy of the previous collector's cataloguing document. Such figurines are found all over central Italy, but particularly in southern Umbria. G. Colonna in Bronzi votivi umbro-sabellici a figura umana. I. Periodo ‘arcaico’ (Florence, 1970), categorised the votive figures into groups according to their stylistic affinities, and the find sites, even if this is not always their likely place of manufacture. This example belongs to the 'Esquiline' group, which was probably produced in southern Umbria but also found in areas such as Rome.For this specific lot, 5% import VAT is applicable on the hammer price
