Superb officer's pistol, 12 mm calibre flintlock system, British-made, by ‘The Royal Patent Waterproof Gun Manufactory’, signed by the renowned gunsmith Theophilus Richards (Birmingham and London, active 1790-1830) , supplier to the English armies, responsible for the ‘Brown Bess flintlock’ system of the ‘Royal Ordinance’, son and successor to Thomas Richards and father of William Westley Richards. The mechanics work perfectly, with two well-synchronised notches and clear percussion. Battery works well. With working sliding safety. Barrel with double Birmingham hallmarks, unscrews by hand. Shest signed on left flank and engraved with a cluster of flags. Steel with uniform grey patina, minor signs of use and age. British walnut wood butt. Very interesting gun, serious design and manufacturing, still in beautiful aesthetic condition and perfectly operational.
