1898, 2¢ light red, type IV, booklet pane of 6, overprinted "Specimen" (Scott 279BjS-E), original staple and interleaving on both sides of pane, rich color, additional strike of "Specimen" overprint on front cover near staple hole and signed by Third Assistant Postmaster General Edwin C. Madden in black ink with his note "No. 4/One of the first one hundred books issued/Compliments of" in red ink, o.g., never hinged; very light creasing at left of front pane, Fine, each booklet originally contained two panes; one here was removed.
