Original deactivated M16A1 rifle, started in 1963 until fairly recently the standard of the U. S. military. Became known in the Vietnam War and many other conflicts. Chambered in 5. 56x45 mm. Made at Colt in Harford USA. This example is in good condition with some minor cracks and dents. It has been deactivated according to the EU directive deactivated including the 2 EU certificates. The rifle will be packaged with the utmost care and be sent insured. Photos are part of the description. The M16 was commissioned by the U. S. Air Force in 1964 for personnel guarding air bases and other installations. It owes its fame mainly to the Vietnam War, where it quickly became the standard weapon of the American armed forces. Initially, in the 1960s, the U. S. military was equipped with the M14, which was too big and too heavy for the jungle of Southeast Asia.
