Date: 17th century
Description: Portrait of the President of the Court War Council Georg TEUFEL in bust. The sitter was raised to the rank of baron in 1566 by Emperor Ferdinand I (1503 Alcalá de Henares-1564 Vienna). The Emperor entrusted him with the office of Court Chamberlain, later Court War Councillor and finally, in 1565, with the office of President of the Court War Council. He was regarded as a rough warrior, a fact that is not taken into account in the portrayal. Here the sitter presents himself as a steadfast, well-behaved subject of the Holy Roman Emperor.
