Condition: Very good condition, lower left corner minimally creased.

Description: It is the most natural gesture for "calm" that seems to exist. The delicate finger is carefully lifted to the lips while they are gently pointed. This careful, almost erotic gesture is drawn here after Annibale Caracci's painting "Il Silenzio". The picture from which we see here the head of Mary extracted, shows in the centre the sleeping Christ Boy. The maternal gesture of calm, which is directed at the bright, boyish John the Baptist, is at least as much in the centre of the picture as the sleeping boy.
