Inscription: Recto and verso inscribed with brown ink

Condition: Very good condition. Pale mildew stains. The upper left corner of the tucked up sheet is cut off extensively. The impression is fresh and strong. The underlay has several horizontal folds, some of which are torn at the sides. There is a long restored tear in the centre right. Along the lower edge of the sheet there are traces of creases and dirt. Along the right edge of the sheet there is a brownish, striped trace.

Description: Handwritten biography of the theologian and reformer Martin Luther (1483 Eisleben - 1546 ibid.). The inserted woodcut shows a bust-portrait of Luther in half profile, holding an opened Bible. On both sides of the sheet in Latin language inscribed: "Martinus Lutherus Islebiensis Theologus [...]". A complete transcription including a translation is enclosed. Recto is dated 1546. Verso, the last paragraph of the chronological list of events in Luther's life with "Adami Siberi" might have a signature. Adam Siber (1516 Schönau - 1584 Grimma) was a humanist, pedagogue and a student of Martin Luther.
