[ translate ]

Edward Kienholz
1927 - 1994
Untitled

signed
oil and wood collage on plywood in artist's chosen frame
Framed: 24⅞ by 48¾ in. (63.2 by 123.8 cm.)
Executed in 1958.

Condition Report:
This work is in very good condition overall. All elements are present and stable. There are tonal and textural variations throughout the surface of the work, inherent to the artist's working method and chosen media. There is a fine layer of surface dust, most notably in the crevices. There is minor rust to the nails along the edge of the wood, visible upon close inspection. There are three missing nails along the upper edge with associated pinholes and minor losses, visible upon close inspection. There are two additional losses to the pigment: the first in the lower left quadrant on the wood collage element measuring approximately ½ inch; the second near the upper edge and 5 ½ inches from the left edge measuring ⅛ inch. There is minor cracking to a 7 inch linear area at the upper left edge, potentially inherent, and a 2½ inch crack to one of the wooden collage elements, visible upon close inspection. Under ultraviolet light, there is no evidence of restoration. Framed without glazing.
